Zero Line Finland works in humanitarian aid and peacebuilding. I worked in visual documentation and communication tasks, where the content had to be ethically sustainable, clear and consider the demands of the situation.
The members of Zero Line from Finland and US deal with sensitive themes where there is no room for misunderstanding. Communication had to be informative, respectful and approachable without dramatization or simplification.
The work was based on advance planning, situational observation and continuous evaluation of what and how to depict. Visual solutions were made in collaboration with the actors and with the communicative purpose in mind. Adding to editing video clips from previous trips to Ukraine and creating printable material for marketing purpouses, I joined a convoy heading to Kiev.
The end result was documentary material that supports Zero Line Finland's communications and operations without compromising the seriousness or confidentiality of the content. The work emphasized consideration, responsibility and the ability to act in demanding contexts.
